Professor Currie holds Australia's first professorship in public transport where he researches and provides training in public transport planning. He has over 30 years experience as a transit planner and has worked for some of the worlds leading operators including London Transport.

Prof Currie has led numerous research projects in public transport in all states and territories of Australia as well as assignments in Europe, Asia and North America.

Professor Currie has a unique range of experience in relation to the development of Public Transport strategies for Special Events. He developed the public transport plan for the successful 1996 Australian Grand Prix, led independent reviews of both the Atlanta and Sydney summer Olympic Games transport systems and was an advisor to both the Athens Olympic Committee and the London Olympic delivery Authority for the design of transport services for the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games.

Professor Currie has a number of professional memberships:

- US Transportation Research Board committee AP025 on Public Transport Planning and Development.

- US Transportation Research Board committee AP050 on Bus Transit Systems.

- US Transportation Research Board committee AP075 on Light Rail Transit. Chair of the Research Subcommittee.

- UITP academic network.

- Victorian Roads Based Public Transport Advisory Council (Australia)

Professor Currie directs the operation of the following research clearinghouses:

- World Transit Research (WTR) (www.worldtransitresearch.info)is designed to help public transport practitioners and researchers get easier access to quality research in the field of public transport planning. WTR is a free repository of research papers, reports, research abstracts and links to research findings from leading research journals indexed and searchable to ensure easier access to topics of interest. The site is developed and run by the Public Transport Research Group at the Institute of Transport Studies, Monash University. In 2011 the site won the Asia Pacific International Award for 'Knowledge and Research' at the UITP World Congress. The site is currently used transit planners and researchers in over 4,000 cities worldwide.

- The Social Research in Transport (SORT) (www.sortclearinghouse.info) Clearinghouse aims to increase awareness of social issues in transport by making it easier to access research in this area. The Clearinghouse is a repository of research reports, research abstracts and links to research findings.
