About the Institute of Railway Technology

Objectives

The IRT aims to promote technology in the railway industry through partnerships and education.

History

Established in 1972 as part of BHP-Melbourne Research Laboratories, the IRT now services the whole rail industry.

Expertise and experience spans: tracks, vehicles, interaction and monitoring capabilities. Also see IRT projects and IRT research

Partners and customers

Includes: BHP, OneSteel, RIC, Government and international companies such as MTR Corporation & London Underground Corporation.

Staff and researchers

IRT staff members include: Graham Tew (Director), Peter Mutton (Associate Director), Dr Klaus Epp (Technical Manager) and Ravi Ravitharan (Business Manager).
